ETS Tariff Cuts Could Halve Profitability of China’s Coal Fleet-Report

28 November 2016 – The introduction of a national ETS and expected reductions in coal tariffs could halve the Chinese coal sector’s profitability by 2020, according to a report released by the Carbon Tracker Initiative. Jiang Zhaoli, vice director of the NDRC’s climate change department, said that China needs a CO2 price of up to 300 RMB ($43.55) per tonne to drive the changes China needs to meet its obligations under the Paris Agreement.
