BRICS Summit Carbon Offset Project launched in Xiamen

22 August 2017 – Xiamen plans to plant 580 acres of mangroves to offset around 3,095 tons of CO2-eq generated by the BRICS Xiamen Summit that took place on 22 August 2017. The planting will be carried out in March and April next year in a mangrove wetland park that is currently under development. By offsetting the emissions caused by traffic, use of air conditioners and other activities associated with the event, the project will make the Summit carbon neutral for the first time in its history.
